Staying True to What You Really Enjoy // Special Guest Gavin Zuchlinski (Episode 75)

Anyone who has listened to the show regularly in the past will quickly realize why Gavin Zuchlinski is perfect for this audience. With so many of us trying our best to grow our businesses while balancing family, home and the many other pieces of life, it’s wonderful to hear from someone with a firm belief that work should be fun!nbsp;

Gavin is the founder of Acuity, the most intuitive and easy-to-use scheduling software on the planet. They say necessity is the mother of invention – hear how Gavin’s own mother played an important role in the creation and development of Acuity… and how he did it with a focus on staying true to what he really enjoys.

Imagine growing your business with the sole purpose of doing what you really LOVE to do...without the worry and stress of turning a profit or reaching the next level. That’s exactly what Gavin was allowed to do as he grew Acuity to what it is today. In the process, he learned some valuable and inspiring lessons that we can all learn from.

So how do you go about building a business by focusing solely on what makes you happy and thoroughly enjoying every minute of it? For Gavin, it was all about concentrating on the value he was able to bring to his clients. He shares with us that, in the beginning especially, it was essential to stay focused on the VALUE of his software while avoiding getting caught up with logistics and infrastructure.

By the way, if you haven’t checked out Acuity yet, you really should! I use it myself (full disclosure) and have been absolutely amazed at how much time I save and how much more productive I can be with my time.

When I asked Gavin what pitfalls he most often sees in working with entrepreneurs, he mentioned the following:

1.nbsp;Providing convenience for your clients to access your value.

One-on-one time with your clients is the most valuable part of your business. Spending too much time scheduling appointments, including all of the back and forth texts and emails, slows you down and prevents you from working directly with your clients. Making the scheduling simpler and more convenient helps you get the most value to your clients sooner.

2. Focusing on perfection.

Gavin says that he sees many entrepreneurs get so caught up with perfecting their logistics, brand or marketing that they often miss key opportunities. His advice – let those things come into play naturally. Instead, focus on adding value to your business.

3. Spending time wisely.nbsp;

When Acuity was first getting started, Gavin was still working a separate full-time job, which forced him to become very particular about what he spent his time on. Again, he suggests continuing to keep an eye on value – know the real worth and impact of what you offer to your clients and spend your time accordingly. This is exactly what Acuity was built to do.

There are so many other fantastic nuggets of advice and insight that Gavin shares throughout this podcast. If you're anything like me, you will finish listening with at least 2 or 3 ideas running through your head of how you can make some adjustments in your own business, and how to do so in a way that allows you to thrive in your zone of genius and create more joy in your life!
